TMC Election Results: Autorickshaw Driver Finishes First In Race Against Jitendra Awhad’s Might In Mumbra

TMC Election Results: Among the names that are being talked about after the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) results is AIMIM’s Nafis Ansari.
Nafis Ansari, a former autorickshaw driver from Mumbra, won the TMC elections from ward number 30 of Mumbra, which is largely seen as the bastion of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Jitendra Awhad.
Post-election, he has publicly stated that he and his colleagues serve as “nagar sevaks” (city servants) for all residents of their ward, regardless of whether they voted for him or not.

His success is often highlighted due to his modest background as an auto-rickshaw driver in the Mumbra area before entering the Thane

Municipal Corporation. Ansari had failed to win the previous election. He said his priorities would be tackling hawkers, clean water and freeing reserved plots.

In the TMC elections, Shinde Sena won 75 seats, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) 28, two factions of the Nationalist Congress Party won 21 seats – 12 by Sharad Pawar faction and 9 by Ajit Pawar group.
Jitendra Awhad is a senior politician from the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) (NCP-SP), representing the Mumbra-Kalwa Assembly constituency in Thane. He’s been a three-term MLA and has held important ministerial portfolios in Maharashtra (like Housing, Minority Affairs) as well as leadership positions in the state assembly.
Thane is his home turf, specifically areas like Mumbra-Kalwa, where he has a large support base. Winning wards here would reinforce his local political stature.
Victory for his party’s candidates would have meant strengthening the NCP-SP’s presence in the local civic body. Control over a municipal corporation helps with civic influence, development priorities, and local patronage — useful for a state-level leader like Awhad.
