Chandigarh, May 30 (PTI) Rainfall hit several areas of Punjab and Haryana on Saturday, providing relief from the intense heat that had affected the region in recent days.
Maximum temperatures dropped significantly below normal in both states.
Showers were reported from Mohali (17 mm), Pathankot (5 mm), Hoshiarpur (3.5 mm), Rupnagar (19 mm), Amritsar (7.2 mm), Ludhiana (32.6 mm), Patiala (19.6 mm), Fazilka (22.5 mm), Ferozepur (13.5 mm), in Punjab, according to a meteorological department report.
Additionally, Pathankot experienced a hailstorm.
In Haryana, rain was witnessed in Narnaul (1.5 mm), Sirsa (7 mm), Gurugram (5 mm), Rohtak (4 mm), Sonipat (12 mm) and Karnal (12.5 mm).
In the past few days, maximum temperatures had been consistently above
40 degrees Celsius across Punjab and Haryana.
Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, received 18.2 mm of rainfall. The city’s maximum temperature settled at 25.3 degrees Celsius, 14 notches below the season’s average.
In Haryana, Ambala’s maximum temperature was 30.8 degrees Celsius, which is 8 degrees below normal.
Hisar, Karnal, Narnaul, Rohtak and Sirsa recorded their respective maximum temperatures of 36.9, 34, 33.5, 33.5 and 34 degrees Celsius, according to the report.
In Punjab, Amritsar’s maximum was 26.8 degrees Celsius, 11 notches below normal, while maximum temperatures of Ludhiana and Patiala were 26.4 and 30 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The maximum temperatures in Pathankot, Bathinda, Faridkot and Gurdaspur were 29, 33, 32 and 25.5 degrees Celsius, respectively. PTI CHS MPL MPL
