A Pakistani techie employed at eBay in the United Kingdom has gone viral after opening up about the emotional and exhausting journey that led her to secure a high-paying tech role abroad.
Shared by Pakistani-origin content creator and Microsoft executive Hamza Chishtie, who currently serves as Director of Cloud & AI at Microsoft. In the clip, he speaks with Ramsha about her experience navigating the competitive tech industry overseas.
During the conversation, Ramsha candidly explained how difficult the process was. Speaking about the effort required to land the role, she said, “Lots of tears, lots of applications, lots of interviews.”
She also spoke about the structure of the UK technology industry, explaining that opportunities are comparatively
concentrated in London, making the competition tougher for candidates.
According to her, unlike the United States, where tech companies are spread across multiple cities and hubs, the UK market is smaller and more centralised, which increases pressure on applicants trying to secure positions at major firms.
Ramsha further highlighted some of the employee benefits commonly available in the UK workplace. “Our health care is free. We get a lot more paid leaves. We get five months of fully paid maternity. And you can take up to a year off in maternity,” she said while comparing work culture and benefits.
Before ending the discussion, she also shared a brief message for young professionals hoping to succeed in demanding industries. Encouraging people to adapt to changing situations, she said, “Be open to change. Don’t resist change.”
The video quickly gained traction online, drawing mixed reactions from social media users.
“It’s wrong to equate work ethic with the number of hours worked. Americans have this idea that the more you work the greater your output, but that’s entirely false. If anything your reducing productivity and leading to burnout. The smartest ones know how to utilise their time better i.e are more efficient. Quality over quantity!” wrote one user.
Another commented, “My time in the US wasn’t long, but long enough to see the difference, over here in UK we treat turning the kettle on and off like part of the job description 😂”
A third user said, “UK are not slackers! US has poor working conditions in terms of benefits leave with higher pay. I think it’s really poor manners to ask about salary especially in British culture so let’s not do that .. ! Feels tone deaf but understand you’re trying to pure youth. Instead talk about skills and experiences that let you be high value and employable 🙏🏽”
Some reactions were humorous. “Ramsha mera eBay walon ny parcel gum kr dia 😭😭😭kia krun!!!!!” joked one commenter.
Others questioned the unusually high salary package. “What drugs are they selling to get this much money 😢” another user wrote.
One user also expressed frustration with motivational success stories online, commenting, “Actually it very sad.. people talk about it.. get views.. but no one actually guides.. 💔”
Another user who claimed to have worked in both countries added, “I worked in US and UK both, there is no life to enjoy the money you earn there lol there’s constant pressure to work crazy hours with extreme pressure.”
