National Award-winning composer and producer Shashwat Sachdev has delivered one of the biggest film music success stories in recent Indian cinema with the soundtracks of Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar: The Revenge. The spy-thriller duology, released across 2025 and 2026, has reportedly generated an estimated Rs 325 crore, or $39 million USD, in total streaming ecosystem value, setting a new benchmark for what a film album can contribute beyond theatrical business.
Sachdev, who is currently ranked among the Top 5 artists on Spotify India, has managed to create a rare full-album phenomenon at a time when the music industry is often driven by short-lived viral clips and standalone singles. With Dhurandhar and its sequel, the composer has not only delivered
chart-topping songs but also built a cohesive sonic universe that has found sustained traction across streaming platforms. Dhurandhar Soundtrack Creates Streaming Milestone
The success of the Dhurandhar music franchise has been described as a major commercial milestone for the streaming age. According to the note shared by the team, the duology has amassed over 93 billion views on YouTube and 1.3 billion Spotify streams in six months.
The soundtrack also reportedly made history as Dhurandhar became the first Indian film to have its entire tracklist chart on the Spotify Global Top 200 simultaneously. It further reached No. 1 on Billboard charts and No. 2 on Spotify’s Top Global Debut chart.
The achievement points to a larger shift in the consumption of Indian film music, where a soundtrack can function not merely as a promotional extension of a film but as an independent commercial engine.
Shashwat Sachdev’s Team On Reviving Full-Album Listening Culture
Speaking about the strategy behind the album’s success, Hrishikesh Seetharam, Business Manager, Shashwat Sachdev, said, “Our core objective with the Dhurandhar franchise was to fundamentally disrupt the ‘single-track’ economy and revive the ‘front-to-back’ listening culture that once defined the golden era of Indian cinema. By treating these soundtracks as a singular, cohesive body of work rather than a collection of viral hooks, Shashwat has effectively redefined the ROI of film music. He has proven that a well-architected album can serve as a primary revenue driver rather than functioning merely as a promotional tool.”
He further explained that the album’s success was driven by a carefully planned release structure. “This success was underpinned by a sophisticated ‘six-single drip’ rollout leading into a staggered album drop, successfully bridging the gap between high-volume YouTube consumption and high-ARPU premium platforms like Apple Music and Spotify.”
Seetharam also highlighted Sachdev’s approach to composing for the franchise. “What sets Sachdev apart is his role as a ‘composer-auteur’ who treats sound as a narrative tool. For Dhurandhar, he moved beyond generic themes to implement ‘Sonic Character Design,’ assigning each lead actor a distinct musical DNA—from the avant-garde use of custom Berlin modular synth sessions for Arjun Rampal’s character to the historical reimagining of the 70-year-old qawwali ‘Ishq Jalakar.’ Whether it was the gutsy integration of Punjabi devotional elements into a thriller score or curating an elite global ensemble featuring Arijit Singh, Diljit Dosanjh and Hanumankind, Shashwat has set a new global benchmark for what Indian film music can achieve.”
Shashwat Sachdev’s Rise
Sachdev, who won the National Award for Uri: The Surgical Strike, has steadily built a reputation for blending traditional Indian soundscapes with international production grammar. Trained in Hindustani classical music from the age of three, he later graduated from Trinity College London and went on to work in Hollywood.
Recently, he also became the first Indian composer to co-compose with two-time Academy Award winner Hans Zimmer for the British series Virdee.
The composer has had a particularly prolific run, shipping three major original soundtracks back-to-back within a 12-month window, including The Bads of Bollywood for Netflix, Kesari Chapter 2 and the Dhurandhar duology.
With the success of Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar: The Revenge, Shashwat Sachdev has emerged as one of the most commercially impactful and creatively ambitious names in contemporary Indian film music.
