New Delhi, Jun 3 (PTI) The Congress on Wednesday condoled the loss of lives in the fire incident in Malviya Nagar here and urged the state government to provide adequate and timely compensation, including prompt medical care to those injured.
Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi expressed grief over the loss of lives and urged party workers to extend every possible assistance in the relief and rescue operations.
“The news of the loss of several lives due to a fire in Malviya Nagar, Delhi, is deeply tragic. I express my deepest condolences to all the bereaved families,” Gandhi said in a post in Hindi on X.
“I urge all Congress workers to extend every possible assistance in the relief and rescue operations. I hope for the speedy recovery of the injured,”
he said.
A massive fire broke out at a bed-and-breakfast in a five-storey building in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area on Wednesday, killing at least 21 people, officials said.
Several of those killed are foreigners, mainly from Central Asian and African countries, officials said, adding the death toll may rise as a number of the injured are in critical condition.
The people rescued also include the relatives of the patients who are being treated at a nearby private hospital.
In a post on X, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said, “Deeply saddened by the tragic fire incident in Malviya Nagar, Delhi. My heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.” The state government authorities should provide adequate and timely compensation, including prompt medical care to the victims, Kharge said.
“I urge Congress workers to extend every possible help and support to the victims in this difficult time,” the Congress chief said.
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said the news of the tragic loss of many lives and the injury of over three dozen people in the fire is truly heart-wrenching.
“May God grant peace to the departed souls. My deepest condolences go out to the bereaved families. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured,” Priyanka Gandhi said.
“I appeal to my colleagues in the Congress party to please extend all possible assistance to those affected,” she said in a post in Hindi on X.
Multiple fire tenders were rushed to control the blaze around 8.50 am.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Further details are awaited. PTI ASK DV DV
