Star South Africa pacer Dale Steyn took a 360-degree turn after his prediction of India’s score went absolutely downhill, with India managing to post 161 batting first in their T20 World Cup opener against the USA at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Suryakumar stood tall with a 49-ball innings laced with 10 fours and four sixes, steering India out of trouble after a dramatic collapse left them reeling at 77/6 in the 13th over.
South Africa-born Shadley van Schalkwyk finished with figures of 4-0-25-4 as India’s vaunted batting line-up, barring Suryakumar, endured a torrid outing and faced the real threat of being restricted to an under-par total.
Earlier, three minutes into India’s innings, Steyn had predicted that India would score 300-plus, thanks
to the opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan. But in the second over, Abhishek departed for a golden duck while Ishan perished in the sixth over.
“Still think this?” a user replied to Steyn’s tweet on Saturday evening.
“Combined… 🙈😂,” the former South Africa pacer said.
Combined… 🙈😂

Notably, India and the USA combined to score 293 runs, as the Wankhede Stadium wicket wasn’t at its usual behaviour, with batters having to work hard to score runs.
293… so close!

Star India pacer Mohammed Siraj, who was included in the squad on Friday due to Harshit Rana’s injury, picked up three wickets to restrict the USA to a paltry 132/8. Arshdeep Singh also bowled an economical spell of 4-0-18-2.
