India white-ball captain Shubman Gill top-scored with a brilliant 67 off 35 balls for Fazilka Falcons against Amritsar Soormas in his second match for the team in the 2026 Sher-E-Punjab T20 League.
He bettered his strike rate from the last game, striking at 191.43 with eight fours and three sixes, before being dismissed off the final ball of the tenth over, caught by Naman Dhir off the bowling of his India teammate and childhood friend, Abhishek Sharma.
Gill, captaining the Falcons, scored 19 runs off 10 balls he faced from Abhishek, the Soormas’ skipper. He hit the spinner for two sixes and a four in the tenth over, but the bowler had the last laugh.
Opening the innings, Gill began watchfully,
taking a single before Vihaan Malhotra fell in the second over. He then found his rhythm against Naman Dhir, striking three consecutive boundaries to move to 14 off seven balls. Boundaries off Sahil Khan and Jaipartap Singh Johal, followed by a six and a four against Shubham Rana. He continued to accelerate, bringing up his half-century off just 28 balls.
Gill last played a T20I for India in December 2025 against South Africa in Dharamsala. He was subsequently dropped for the New Zealand series and missed the 2026 T20 World Cup despite scoring over 700 runs for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026. The right-hander was also overlooked for India’s T20I series against Ireland, England, Zimbabwe and Afghanistan, as well as the Asian Games.
Gill, who recently led India to a 1-0 Test series win over Sri Lanka and is coming fresh off attending the BCCI meeting in Mumbai to chart the team’s future plan, is expected to return to India’s white-ball setup for the three-match ODI series against the West Indies, beginning September 27.
