Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Lucknow on December 25 to mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee. During his visit, the Prime Minister will
meet and felicitate senior BJP leaders who had worked closely with Vajpayee.
In addition to this, the Prime Minister is also expected to announce new educational initiatives named after Vajpayee. He will address a public gathering as part of the day’s programme.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the newly constructed ‘Prerna Sthal’ (museum) in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The museum showcases personal belongings, photographs and memorabilia associated with Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya and Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee.
December 25 is observed as Good Governance Day in India to commemorate the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. This year holds special significance as the country celebrates the former Prime Minister’s 100th birthday, reflecting on his legacy of transparency, efficiency, and people-centric governance.
Atal Bihar Vajpayee: The Visionary
Born on December 25, 1924, in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, Atal Bihari Vajpayee served as the Prime Minister of India three times: briefly in 1996 and for 13 months in 1998 and 1999, then full-time from 1999 to 2004.
He is known for his eloquence and poetry and was the first leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to hold the office of Prime Minister.
He was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2015, India’s highest civilian award.
Vajpayee’s tenure saw transformational initiatives like Kisan Credit Card, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, National Rural Health Program etc. This policy laid the foundation for many reforms and improvements in rural development and education.
