Amid rising tensions between ICC and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over the latter’s silence over Pakistan not playing India at the 2026 T20 World Cup, a report claims that there will be no official communication
since the decision has already been conveyed by their national government via their “official platform”.
The Pakistan government on Sunday said it has permitted the national cricket team to travel to Sri Lanka for the T20 World Cup, but the team won’t take the field for their group match against India on February 15.
“Since it’s a government decision and conveyed through an official platform, so there is no need to write to the ICC,” Telecomasia quoted a PCB source as saying.
Citing the source, the publication reported the PCB claims BCCI also didn’t provide any official letter from their government to the ICC that the Indian team hasn’t gotten permission to travel to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Pakistan was the official host for the Champions Trophy, but the competition was held in a hybrid format with India playing all their matches in Dubai after BCCI said they haven’t gotten clearance from the government to travel across the border.
“Did India at any point convey to the ICC that they will not travel to Pakistan, and when once it was demanded of India to show Government’s letter, they never showed it. So is there a need to give anything in writing? No,” the source was quoted as saying.
The ICC is awaiting an official communication from the PCB following which it will decide its future course of action.
Despite the uncertainty, the Indian cricket team is expected to travel to Colombo with captain Suryakumar Yadav to attend the media duties on the match eve. For India to get s walkover, the skipper will have to be present during the toss time. The absence of both the teams at the venue will result in each of them being awarded a point each.
