A video surfacing on Instagram depicts a man questioning several citizens of Vadodara, Gujarat, whether it is actually a dry state or not. And the reactions were simply unbelievable. A person said, “Nahi hai. Idhar hi milti hai peeche. (It’s not. You can find it right there)” Another one said, “Bilkul nahi hai. Har jagah pr sharaab bik rahi hai, lok pi rahe hain, ghum rahe hain. (Absolutely not. Alcohol is being sold everywhere, people are drinking and roaming around.)” One of them shared, “Milti hai sabhi jagah chup chup ke bechte hain. (It is available everywhere; they sell it quietly.)”

“Sabke ghar pr raid maarke dekhlo mil jayega. Pechaan lagwa ke nikal sakte hain (Raid everyone’s house and you’ll find them. You can get away with contacts),” said a citizen. One person replied, “Jitna baaki rajyon mein nahi milta hai, usse zada yahan milta hai. (You get more here than you get in other states.)”

In no time, the comment section was swamped with reactions from several users. “Sabse jada yaha hi milti hai,” an Instagram user commented. Another one shared, “Gujarat sirf document main dry state hai.” A comment reads, “Gujarat dry state h lekin kabhi mehsus nahi hua.” Another one penned, “Chup chup kr peete hai.”

A user shared, “The only thing dry in Gujarat is the Sabarmati River.” One of them penned, “I agree milti hai, but because of the ban, there’s fear in the locals and they would usually consume it inside their house and avoid drama at public places. Ban hai isiliye log thode darte hain to consume it openly, which is good in my opinion.”

“Sham, calling dry state but selling at higher rates,” a person wrote.

The state’s prohibition policy is closely linked to its cultural and historical heritage. It celebrates Mahatma Gandhi’s temperance values, which aim to improve health, reduce crime, and promote social harmony.
