In a recent interview with India Today, Kalpana opened up about her journey over the years, reflecting on what ultimately led her to step away from the limelight.
Kalpana Iyer Was Not Happy With The Work She Was Getting
Kalpana revealed that during her time working in television, she began to notice a shift happening around her. She observed that everything seemed to revolve around the same people and familiar cliques. Since she was not part of any group, either in the industry
or on television, she often felt out of place. On top of that, she was not satisfied with the kind of work she was being offered. Feeling that continuing under those circumstances made little sense, she chose to step away and focus on other aspects of her life.
Kalpana, who moved to Dubai in the 1990s, clarified that she was never out of reach and is now open to taking on new work again.

When asked if she ever sought Salman Khan’s help for work, given his reputation for supporting people in the industry, Kalpana was quick to clarify that she never reached out to anyone. She explained that it was not because she believed it was wrong to ask, but simply because Dubai, where she had moved, is not so far removed that she could not be contacted if someone truly wanted to reach her.
She added that she never believed in approaching anyone to request a role or ask them to cast her. According to her, if someone is aware of her existence and feels she deserves an opportunity, they would naturally find their way to her. If that did not happen, she takes it as a sign that it was not meant for her. Kalpana concluded by saying she holds no one responsible and does not believe in harbouring any negativity.
Thanks to the viral video, Kalpana revealed that she has started receiving calls from reality shows and is being asked about roles that she is comfortable doing.
