Shilpa Shirodkar Says She's A 'Fan' Of Brother-In-Law Mahesh Babu: 'One Of The Kindest Souls I’ve Met'

chat while promoting the film, the actor opened up about the kind of person Mahesh is behind the superstar image — and fans are loving the honesty.

“He only wants the best for everyone”

Speaking about Mahesh during her interview with Prema, Shilpa didn’t hold back her love for him.

She said, “He is family and is one of the kindest souls I’ve met. As an actor, I’m a fan of Mahesh. He is my brother-in-law and he is…I mean, you know what? Honestly, he is one person I would say who only wants the best for everyone. There’s no malice, there’s no jealousy, there’s no envy. He is just what you see of him.”

It’s no secret that Mahesh has a reputation for supporting good cinema — regularly celebrating films from across India on social media. Shilpa believes that comes from a genuine place.

Would she work with Mahesh?

When asked whether she had ever expressed interest in acting with him, Shilpa smiled. She shared, “No, I haven’t crossed that path yet. But maybe if this film does well…I haven’t asked him about it,” referring to Jatadhara, where she stars alongside Sonakshi Sinha and Sudheer Babu.

The Shirodkar–Ghattamaneni family connection runs deep in Indian cinema. Shilpa’s sister, Namrata Shirodkar, married Mahesh two decades ago. Their children, Gautam and Sitara, are also showing signs of joining the industry in the future.

Where they are now

Shilpa took a long break from films after Gaja Gamini in 2000, shifted to television, and later returned with Guns of Banaras in 2020. She says this new phase feels like a fresh start.

Mahesh, meanwhile, was last seen in Guntur Kaaram (2024) and is currently gearing up for his massive action-adventure with SS Rajamouli, tentatively called SSMB 29 — co-starring Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran.

As Shilpa gets ready for audiences to meet her again on the big screen, her belief in Mahesh’s goodness has clearly struck a chord with fans — and has added an extra layer of family love to the buzz around her comeback.
