Thane, Jul 25 (PTI) Nine families were asked to shift to safer locations following a landslide near their chawl (row tenement) in Maharashtra’s Thane city on Saturday, officials said.
No injuries were reported in the incident that occurred near Khandeshi Chawl, located behind Datta Mandir in the Retibunder area of Mumbra, they said.
Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Regional Disaster Management Cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation, said they received an alert around 1:20 pm regarding the landslide.
Emergency responders were sent to the scene to assess the situation, he said.
“A portion of a wall that had collapsed onto the adjacent road due to the landslide was cleared by disaster management staff to restore traffic flow,” Tadvi stated. The area has
been cordoned off as a precautionary measure.
Owing to the precarious condition of the chawl, authorities asked nine families residing there to relocate to safer alternative accommodations temporarily, Tadvi added. PTI COR NR
