Kuldeep Yadav altered the record books on Saturday, bagging a 4-wicket haul in the third ODI against South Africa in Vizag. The Proteas were comfortably placed at 199/4 in the 33rd over, with Quinton de Kock bringing up his 23rd ODI century. Later, Dewald Brevis and Marco Jansen kept the momentum going, but Kuldeep Yadav turned the game on its head by removing both in the same over. South Africa collapsed from 234/5 to 270 all out, with Kuldeep finishing a superb spell of 4/41 in 10 overs.
Kuldeep bagged his 9th 4-fer for India in ODIs, achieving a new milestone. The southpaw surpassed former India cricketers Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath, becoming the third bowler with the most 4-plus wicket hauls in the 50-over format. Kuldeep has 9 4-fers
and a couple of 5-fers to his credit in ODIs.
| Bowler Name | 4-Plus Wicket Hauls |
| Mohammad Shami | 16 |
| Ajit Agarkar | 12 |
| Kuldeep Yadav | 11 |
| Anil Kumble | 10 |
| Javagal Srinath | 10 |
It was also his fourth 4-wicket haul against South Africa in ODIs. In 16 ODIs against South Africa, Kuldeep has claimed an impressive 36 wickets at an average of 17.58 and an economy of 4.95. His five four-wicket hauls against the Proteas are the most by any Indian bowler versus a single team in ODIs, surpassing the four each taken by Zaheer Khan against Zimbabwe and Mohammed Shami against the West Indies.
Visakhapatnam has also remained a happy hunting ground for him. Across five matches at the venue, he has taken 13 wickets at an average of 16.46, his latest effort being his best figures at the venue.
India staged a strong comeback through Prasidh Krishna and Kuldeep Yadav after Quinton de Kock’s 23rd ODI century powered South Africa towards a big total, eventually restricting them to 270 in the series decider.
After Arshdeep Singh’s early strike, de Kock and Temba Bavuma built a solid stand, but Prasidh’s brilliant second spell—three wickets in four overs—triggered a collapse from 168/2 to 199/5. Kuldeep then took charge, running through the lower order with figures of 4/41. What began as a dominant Proteas innings quickly unravelled, leaving India with a manageable target in the crucial third ODI.
