Malayalam actor Vinayakan is now under scanner by the Mavelikkara Police in Kerala’s Alappuzha district. He has been accused of uploading a Facebook post containing a minor girl’s photograph and her father’s mobile number without the family’s consent. The case was reportedly registered following directions issued by the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
According to Mathrubhumi, the complainant who is from Thazhakara, had previously shared a Facebook post related to Vinayakan through WhatsApp with a few people. He further claimed that the actor later uploaded a screenshot of his WhatsApp profile on Facebook. Since the complainant’s profile picture featured his eight-year-old daughter, the child’s photograph was allegedly
made public through the post.
The father also alleged that the Facebook post displayed his mobile number and included objectionable remarks against him. According to the complaint, the post resulted in repeated calls from unknown individuals, with some allegedly abusing him after obtaining his contact details.
The matter later came up before the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights during its sitting in Alappuzha. After examining the complaint, the commission reportedly directed the Mavelikkara Police to register a case against the actor.
Authorities have invoked provisions related to insulting womanhood, along with relevant sections of the Information Technology Act. The alleged offence is said to have taken place in July last year. Further details regarding the investigation are awaited.
This is not the first time Vinayakan has faced legal trouble.
In May 2025, the actor was arrested for allegedly creating a ruckus at a hotel in Kollam, Kerala, while under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred during his checkout from the hotel, where he had been staying since May 2 for the shoot of an upcoming film.
According to PTI, an official from the Anchalummoodu police station confirmed that hotel staff alerted the police after the actor allegedly created a commotion.
“He was over-alcoholic and was shouting at everyone, even the police,” the officer reportedly stated.
The police took Vinayakan for a medical examination before bringing him to the Anchalummoodu police station, where a case was registered against him under Section 118(a) of the Kerala Police Act, which deals with public intoxication.
Reports also stated that the actor allegedly argued with police personnel inside the station. He was later released on station bail after one of his associates stood surety for him.
Earlier, in November 2024, Vinayakan was involved in another controversy after videos surfaced showing him in a verbal altercation with a shopkeeper on the streets of Goa. Dressed casually, he was seen shaking continuously while speaking. While some social media users speculated that he was intoxicated, others believed he could have been performing a character.
In October 2023, the actor was also detained at the Ernakulam police station in Kochi district for alleged misbehaviour while in an inebriated state.
On the work front, Vinayakan will next be seen in Jailer 2, starring Rajinikanth in the lead.
