Bhopal, May 31 (PTI) A western disturbance and moisture incursion from the Arabian Sea have brought a reprieve from heatwave conditions to most parts of Madhya Pradesh, with light rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds expected on Sunday.
The respite comes during ‘Nautapa’ — a nine-day period regarded as the most intense spell of summer heat experienced in Northern and Central India since May 25.
Barring the Sagar division, the state is going to experience light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and lightning, India Meteorological Department’s Bhopal office duty officer HS Pandey told PTI.
The western disturbance and moisture incursion from the Arabian Sea have changed the weather and pulled the state out of heatwave conditions, with the maximum temperature
dipping 1 to 3 degrees Celsius below normal, he said.
According to the official, the districts of Khandwa, Khargone, Burhanpur, Dhar, Alirajpur, Jhabua, Seoni, Mandla, Balaghat, Chhindwara, Betul and Dindori might see gusty winds at the speed of 50 to 60 kilometres per hour (KMPH).
The change in weather was triggered after Saturday midnight when winds gusting at 60 to 70 kmph brought down tree branches in Bhopal, disrupting power supply in several parts of the state capital.
According to the IMD, Sehore district recorded the highest wind speed of 94 kmph after midnight, followed by drizzle in parts of the state. PTI LAL ARU
