Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana is one of the most anticipated films of 2026. Featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, the epic has already generated immense excitement with its first glimpse. Ahead of its next asset reveal, actress Kajal Aggarwal recently spoke about the film. She will be seen playing the role of Mandodari, Ravana’s wife, in the film. She opened up about her role in Ramayana, revealing that her screen time in the first installment will be limited. Explaining the reason, she shared that the portions set in Lanka occupy a smaller part of the narrative in the opening chapter of Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious two-part adaptation.
While speaking to Zoom, Kajal Aggarwal said, “We’ve
only filmed part one and of course, Lanka is lesser in that, and I am Mandodari. So my role is obviously very limited. Regardless of that, it’s been wonderful. It’s been an amazing experience to just be a part of something, a magnum opus which is going to be a world film. World cinema is a fantastic feeling and I’m just really grateful that I’m a part of something which is so close to our hearts.”
Further talking about her connection to the source material, Kajal said the story of the Ramayana has been an integral part of her upbringing. She shared that it felt like a tale familiar to every household, recalling how her generation grew up watching it every Sunday on Doordarshan. Calling it culturally and spiritually significant, Kajal added that she feels deeply connected to both the epic and the work being done on the film.
Kajal also opened up about working with Yash, who essays the role of Ravana, while she portrays his wife, Mandodari, in the film. She said, “He’s a wonderful actor. I’ve always admired his work and it was amazing to work with him on this particular project. He’s so invested in the film as well. So I just think it’s really exciting for all of us. He’s extremely professional and of course immensely talented.”
Ramayana will be released as a two-part cinematic saga, with the first installment scheduled to arrive in theatres during Diwali 2026, followed by the second part on Diwali 2027.
