Salman Khan Moves Delhi High Court, Seeks Protection Of His Personality Rights

Actor Salman Khan has asked the Delhi High Court to protect his personality and publicity rights. The Delhi High Court will hear his petition on Thursday, where Salman Khan is asking for full legal protection against the unauthorised use of his personality traits. This move adds to the growing number of public figures turning to the courts to stop the misuse of their identities, especially with the rise of digital media and artificial intelligence.

Salman wants the Court to stop several named and unnamed people from using his name, image, voice, likeness, dialogues, mannerisms and other parts of his persona without permission. He says that many platforms and groups have used his identity without his consent, which could mislead people, lower

his brand value and seriously harm his commercial and personal rights.

The petition points out that in recent months, many top film stars and digital creators have also gone to court to protect the commercial and personal sides of their identities. The Delhi High Court has become an important place for these cases. It has already given strong orders to protect the rights of Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Nagarjuna, Anil Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, and content creator Raj Shamani, recognising their exclusive right to control how their personas are used commercially.

The Court has also looked at new problems like AI-generated impersonations, deepfakes, and other fake digital content that can quickly damage a person’s image and reputation. In several decisions, judges have said that these impersonations break privacy, dignity, and publicity rights, but they also warned that real artistic expression, satire, news reporting, and commentary should still be protected under the Constitution.
