Bollywood’s action hero Akshay Kumar has once again reminded audiences that behind the polished stunts on screen often lies a very real risk. The actor, who has built a reputation for doing his own high-octane action sequences, recently revisited some unsettling moments from his film journey where things could have gone drastically wrong.
Speaking in a candid conversation with Subhankar Mishra on his YouTube channel, Akshay talked about how stunt work in earlier years came with little to no safety cushioning. Unlike today’s heavy reliance on VFX and advanced technology, many sequences had to be performed live, with real danger involved.
He recalled an incident from Sainik where a routine stunt between two buildings nearly turned fatal. Describing
the moment, Akshay shared how physically exhausting the shot became mid-performance, making him fear he might not complete the jump safely.
He said, “Ek baar Sainik mein hua tha. Ek building se doosri building jaate-jaate mera haath thak gaya tha, and I thought mein chala jaunga, ek building se dusre building. Tab kuch nahi tha, VFX bhi nahi tha, khud hi sab karna padta tha. International Khiladi mein, boat ke scene mein mera aadha shareer cut jaata. Samne se catamaran aa raha tha, aur meri boat uske beech se jaane wali thi, main poora cut ho jaata, lekin bach gaya.”
He further added, “Once, during International Khiladi, in a boat scene, half of my body could have been cut off. A catamaran was coming from the front, and my boat was about to pass right through it, I could have been completely sliced, but I survived. Jab maine Khiladi 786 mein jump maara tha, mujhe hot air balloon par dive karna tha, tab bhi bach gaya,” added Kumar.
The actor also spoke about International Khiladi and another dangerous stunt sequence from Khiladi 786, explaining how several moments in his career could have ended badly, but somehow did not.
Despite these repeated close calls, Akshay revealed that his approach at home remains surprisingly relaxed. He shared that his wife, author and former actress Twinkle Khanna, has grown accustomed to his risky profession and rarely reacts with panic anymore.
According to him, she simply believes, “Woh aa jayega, theek-thaak aa jayega,” reflecting a calm trust in his ability to return safely, even after dangerous shoots.
On the professional front, Akshay continues to stay deeply committed to action-driven cinema. He was recently seen in Bhooth Bangla, and the film itself reportedly included a mishap during a stunt sequence. A behind-the-scenes video shared by the makers showed Akshay executing a mid-air kick during a high-intensity shot before losing balance on landing and injuring himself.
The film also features Paresh Rawal, Asrani, Rajpal Yadav, and Wamiqa Gabbi, bringing together a mix of comedy and horror elements.
Originally slated for an April 10 release, the film’s schedule was later revised. Producer Ektaa Kapoor confirmed the change in a social media post, explaining that the decision was made in consultation with distributors and exhibitors to ensure better screen space for multiple releases. The film will now release on April 16, with shows beginning at 9 pm.
The update also acknowledged the strong box office performance of Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar: The Revenge, noting that the shift was intended to give both films adequate theatrical attention.
The film is presented by Balaji Motion Pictures, a division of Balaji Telefilms Ltd, in association with Cape of Good Films. Produced by Akshay Kumar, Shobha Kapoor, and Ektaa R Kapoor, and directed by Priyadarshan, the project is now set to arrive in cinemas on April 16.
Alongside this, Akshay has also been vocal about his stance on technology in filmmaking. He has previously expressed his preference for performing real stunts over relying heavily on VFX or AI, saying that practical action brings a more authentic experience for audiences and preserves the raw energy of cinema.
