Nagpur, Jun 7 (PTI) A family picnic turned tragic on Sunday when three members, including a six-year-old child, drowned in the Kanhan river in Kamptee town of Nagpur district in Maharashtra, police said.
A group of 13 to 14 members of a family from Nagpur and Kamptee had gathered at the riverbank when six-year-old Chaitanya Ambade accidentally slipped into the river and began drowning.
Seeing the child in danger, his cousin Gautam Ambade (30) jumped into the water to save him. However, he was pulled in by a strong current. In a desperate rescue attempt, Rohit Nagdevte, the family’s son-in-law from Kamptee, entered the river, but he too drowned.
Police, along with Army personnel from Kamptee Cantonment, launched a rescue operation and pulled all
three out of the river. They were rushed to the Sub-District Hospital, where doctors declared them dead. PTI COR NSK
