Stock Market Updates: Sensex Surges 590 Points, Nifty Above 25,800; IT, Auto Stocks Rally

Sensex Today: Indian stock markets traded higher on Wednesday, supported by gains across Asian peers.

The BSE Sensex rose 569 points (0.68%) to 84,440, while the Nifty50 advanced 159 points (0.62%) to 25,854.

Investors tracked the last leg of Q2FY26 earnings and awaited October CPI inflation data, which could shape the RBI’s policy outlook. On the listing front, attention remained on the Groww IPO and Tata Motors CV debut.

Among large-cap gainers, ONGC, Eternal, Bajaj Finserv, Max Healthcare, Tech Mahindra, TCS, Reliance Industries, Infosys, and Bharti Airtel rose up to 2%. On the flip side, JSW Steel, BEL, Nestle, Bajaj Auto, SBI Life, and Apollo Hospitals were the top laggards.

In the broader market, the Nifty MidCap index gained 0.53%, while the Nifty SmallCap index climbed 0.64%.

BSE (up 6%), Max Financial Services, Oil India, Mphasis, 360 One, L&T Finance, and Biocon led the midcap rally.

Sectorally, Nifty IT gained 1%, followed by PSU Bank (0.8%), Financial Services (0.6%), and Realty (0.5%) indices.

Global Market Update

Asian markets traded mostly higher on Wednesday, following overnight gains on Wall Street. Investor sentiment improved amid optimism over a possible resolution to the US government shutdown and sectoral rotation away from AI and tech stocks.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 slipped 0.26%, while the Topix gained 0.35%. South Korea’s Kospi was flat, but the Kosdaq advanced 0.62%. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 inched up 0.13%, signaling a mildly positive tone across the Asia-Pacific region.

In the US, the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 1.18% to a record closing high, while the S&P 500 rose 0.21%. The Nasdaq Composite, however, edged down 0.25% as investors rotated out of tech stocks.
