A video showing a stray dog riding the Kolkata metro on Diwali has captured the attention of social media users. In the clip, the dog can be seen moving through different compartments, seemingly looking for a quiet place to rest away from the loud firecrackers. Many viewers found the video adorable, but it also highlighted the dangers animals face during festive celebrations when noise and smoke can cause panic.
The footage shows passengers noticing the uninvited co-passenger with surprise and amusement. Some commuters gently petted the dog, while others recorded the unusual sight on their phones. The stray appeared to avoid crowded areas where people were filming, moving carefully in search of a safe spot to lie down.
Dog Seeks Refuge From Firecrackers
The dog reportedly boarded the metro at Girish Park station and travelled on the south-bound blue line. People watching were charmed by its calm and composed behaviour despite the unusual surroundings. Onlookers speculated that the dog’s metro ride was an attempt to escape the loud firecrackers exploding across the city during Diwali.
Passengers initially reacted with shock, then amusement, as the stray wandered around quietly. Some commuters petted the dog, showing affection, while others recorded the scene on their phones. Although the dog moved from compartment to compartment, it did not disturb any passengers.

People React to the Video
The video received mostly positive responses online. Many users were happy to see passengers treating the stray kindly.
“So lovely to see. At least people are not shooing away the dog,” commented a viewer.
Others added humour to the post, writing, “Does bro know where he is going?” and “He is getting late for the office, that’s why he took the metro today.”
Some users, however, expressed concern for the dog’s safety. “Poor animal… got lost from his original area… hope he can get back to its original home… praying,” wrote a user.
Another noted that scared animals often enter metro stations during noisy celebrations: “This happened because of the Diwali sound. Many dogs were so scared, they entered the metro premises.”
Metro Staff Intervene
The dog’s ride reportedly ended when the station master at Mahanayak Uttam Kumar (Tollygunge) station spotted it on CCTV and informed the metro control room. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and metro employees safely removed the stray at Shahid Khudiram Metro station.
