Yuvraj Singh has reportedly joined the Delhi Capitals (DC)’s coaching setup for the IPL 2027 season. According to The Times of India, former India captain Sourav Ganguly will take over the franchise’s coaching setup for the season and wants Yuvraj to be in his team.
DC has a unique management arrangement. GMR Group and JSW Group co-own the franchise, with each holding a 50% stake. Every two years, they switch control among each other, with GMR’s tenure ending with a sixth-placed finish in 2026. There were some murmurs of GMR wanting to control the team for a longer period.
However, the report said that with JSW now set to take over, its chairman, Parth Jindal, will appoint Ganguly to the job. Ganguly took the Pretoria Capitals to the final of
the recent SA20 after taking over as the head coach.
For Yuvraj, this would be his first formal coaching job. He has been previously linked with other teams, like the Gujarat Titans, though nothing materialised at the time.
Yuvraj is known to have helped several domestic and IPL talents like Abhishek Sharma, Prabhsimran Singh and Abdul Samad, while also working casually with the likes of Sanju Samson. Samson had thanked Yuvraj for his help during the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Yuvraj also runs an influential talent agency, Prolithic, and Abhishek, Prabhsimran and among other IPL stars are part of that roster. It would be interesting to see how those interests work together if and when he takes over as a coach at DC.
DC can do with some of Yuvraj’s experience as a double-World Cup winner. Not crossing the line and not having enough consistency to challenge for playoff spots has been a scourge for the Capital team, which has yet to win a trophy.
Yuvraj will also bring significant knowledge of the Punjab — a state which has taken up T20 cricket like a duck to water — ecosystem, where he runs expensive camps for young talents.
