Gujarat Titans batter was stung on the elbow by a Karthik Tyagi in the IPL 2026 encounter against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on Saturday.
The young southpaw was seen grimacing on the field before having to walk off the field retired hurt in the side’s chase of 248 runs.
GT skipper Shubman Gill opted to field first, and KKR made full use of the opportunity, piling up a massive 247 for 2 on the back of superb innings from Finn Allen, Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Cameron Green.
Ajinkya Rahane opened with Allen and the pair added 44 for the first wicket before Rahane was dismissed by Mohammed Siraj for 14 off 14 balls.
Allen, given two reprieves by Jason Holder and Siraj, raced to a half-century off just 21 deliveries while Raghuvanshi kept
the scoreboard moving at the other end. The New Zealander then tore into the bowling, smashing 10 sixes in a blistering 93 off 38 balls before Sai Kishore finally removed him.
After Allen’s dismissal, Raghuvanshi took control, finishing unbeaten on 82 from 44 balls. Green provided excellent support, remaining not out on 52 off 28 deliveries as KKR closed on 247.
GT began the chase in style, with Sai and Gill hammering 42 runs in the first 3 overs. However, Sai was struck on the elbow and had to retire, bringing Nishanth Sindhu to the crease.
Sindhu’s stay was brief as Sunil Narine dismissed him for just 1, prompting Jos Buttler’s arrival to rebuild the innings.
Gill and Buttler then put together a superb 123-run partnership, both registering half-centuries to keep GT firmly in contention. Gill made 85 before Narine claimed his second wicket, with Anukul Roy holding a crucial catch in the deep to remove the GT captain. Sudharsan then joined Buttler, aiming to steer the chase home.
Buttler fell to Saurabh Dubey for 57 off 35, leaving Sudharsan to carry on. He reached a fighting fifty and finished unbeaten on 53 off 28, but his effort was not enough as GT ultimately fell 29 runs short of the target.
