Relationships can be complicated, but they can also come with dangerously close calls. A relationship in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur nearly cost a man his life after his girlfriend allegedly locked him inside
a trunk to avoid being caught by her aunt, police said.
According to a report by NDTV, the woman had called the man at her place after her family members had gone to work. The man, who lives seven houses away, reached her house by the afternoon.
However, the woman’s aunt, who lived in an adjacent building, heard a noise from the woman’s room and suspected that someone else was there. After she went there and knocked on the door, the woman panicked and made a desperate move to hide her boyfriend in a large iron trunk.
She then opened the door calmly and spoke with her aunt. However, the latter was not convinced and locked the gate before calling the woman’s mother and daughter home. “I saw him going inside. He can’t just disappear into thin air,” she later told police.
The woman’s family members arrived and began searching for the man in vain. After 45 minutes, the family heard a sound from the trunk, which was the man’s attempt to get out. However, the woman refused to hand over the keys to the trunk, saying her clothes were there.
At this point, the family called the police, who pressured the woman to open the box. After she complied, her boyfriend came out gasping for air, drenched in sweat. The incident caused the policemen to laugh, but the family members of the woman tried to thrash him before the cops intervened, NDTV reported.
“Sir, take this man away, and take this woman too, and put them both in jail,” the woman’s mother is heard saying. A police officer later said the man had been charged with “disturbing peace” and more action could be taken if the woman’s family filed a complaint.
