Chennai Super Kings will aim to build on their recent resurgence when they face already-eliminated Lucknow Super Giants in an IPL 2026 match on Friday. CSK have stayed in the IPL playoffs race with timely wins in the second half of the season, while LSG’s campaign has faltered because of a series of underwhelming performances.

The equation for CSK is simple – win their remaining matches and hope other results go their way. The five-time champions are currently fifth with six wins from 11 games.
Despite criticism over their finishing firepower, CSK have found resistance through key contributions from Sanju Samson, Urvil Patel, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and several emerging players. Urvil’s aggressive
approach at the top has boosted CSK’s powerplay scoring, while Shivam Dube, Kartik Sharma and Dewald Brevis will also have important roles in the middle overs on a batting-friendly surface.
CSK, however, suffered a setback with all-rounder Jamie Overton ruled out due to a thigh injury. Before the injury, Overton had been central to CSK’s bowling effort, taking 14 wickets in 10 matches and delivering crucial middle-overs breakthroughs. LSG, meanwhile, have only pride left to play for. Rishabh Pant’s poor form and a struggling bowling unit have hurt them throughout the season. Though Josh Inglis, Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh have shown flashes of brilliance, LSG have failed to click collectively and remain at the bottom of the table.
