India defeated Pakistan by 5 wickets on Sunday (September 28) to win the Asia Cup title for the record-extending ninth time. In the title-decider played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, India bowled Pakistan out for 146 runs in 19.1 overs after inviting them to bat first. Kuldeep Yadav picked up four wickets for 30 runs in four overs, and two Pakistani batters each were sent back to the pavilion by Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel and Varun Chakaravarthy.
In the 147-run chase, India lost Abhishek Sharma (5), Suryakumar Yadav (1) and Shubman Gill (12) inside four overs for 20 runs, but then Tilak Varma (69* from 53 balls) joined hands with Sanju Samson (24) to revive the Men in Blue’s innings. They added 57 runs from 50 balls before Abrar Ahmed
removed Samson on the second ball of the 13th over.
After Samson’s wicket, Tilak and Shivam Dube (33 from 22 balls) added 60 runs from 40 balls for the 5th wicket to kick Pakistan out of the contest before Rinku Singh scored the winning runs on the fourth ball of the 20th over bowled by Haris Rauf (0/50 in 3.4 overs).
The BCCI announced prize money of Rs 21 crore for Indian the team and support staff for winning the Asia Cup 2025 title.
In the Asia Cup 2025, Abhishek played all seven matches for Team India and, with the help of 32 fours and 19 sixes, scored a total of 314 runs. He scored three half-centuries in three Super 4s matches.
Kuldeep, on the other hand, accounted for the dismissal of 17 batters in seven matches.
During the final, he broke Lasith Malinga’s record to become the highest wicket-taker in the Asia Cup and also equalled Ajantha Mendis’ record of taking the most wickets in one edition of the Asia Cup.
