Do the right thing even when no one is watching: Air India CEO tells staff

New Delhi, Aug 13 (PTI) Do the right thing even when no one is watching, and the consequences of doing the wrong thing will only get higher and higher, Air India chief Campbell Wilson told staff on Thursday, highlighting instances of misuse of employee travel privileges, among other issues.

His remarks during a townhall were mainly in reference to the termination of the services of around 1,000 people for various violations since privatisation in January 2022.

According to sources, Wilson said there are still cases where people don’t seem to think rules and regulations apply to them.

Wilson has resigned as the CEO and MD and will leave the airline next month.

There are still instances where people choose to do the wrong thing, he said at the townhall.

“…do the right thing, even when no one is watching. If you see someone doing the wrong thing, report it. Know that the chances of getting away are getting fewer and fewer… know that the consequences of doing the wrong thing will only get higher,” Wilson said.

While there was no direct reference, the comments also come against the backdrop of a pilot-in-command of the Phuket-Delhi flight testing positive for a psychoactive substance.

The flight had suddenly lost 300 feet during cruise on August 4.

At the townhall, Wilson also said that since privatisation, the airline has progressively introduced systems and controls to prevent, catch and deal with abuse, and will continue to tighten them.

The loss-making airline was acquired by the Tata Group in January 2022. PTI RAM BAL BAL
