Joyalukkas' 16.5-kg gold jhumkas enter Guinness World Records with two titles

New Delhi, Oct 26 (PTI) Joyalukkas Jewellery on Monday said it has entered the Guinness World Records with two titles, ‘Heaviest Pair of Gold Earrings’ and ‘Largest Pair of Earrings’, for a handcrafted pair of gold jhumkas weighing 16.514 kg.

Named Mayura Sahasra, or “A Thousand Peacocks,” the 22-carat gold earrings were unveiled on Saturday, October 24, by Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism, at Jewel of Joy by Joyalukkas in Dubai Gold District.

The net gold weight is more than five times the previous record, and both titles were verified by Guinness World Records, the company said in a statement.

The design draws on the peacock, a symbol of grace and pride in Indian tradition. It echoes a legend of a peacock that shed

a thousand feathers at the gates of heaven, each carrying a prayer, wish and dream. The company’s master artisans crafted the jhumkas, the traditional bell-shaped earrings of South Asian bridal heritage, over several months.

The pair will be kept intact and displayed permanently at Jewel of Joy, which the company describes as the biggest jewellery destination in the Middle East. Entry is free for all visitors from 10 AM to 10 PM, seven days a week.

A Guinness World Records adjudicator presented the certificates to Joyalukkas Group Chairman Dr. Joy Alukkas and Joyalukkas Jewellery CEO John Paul Alukkas.

“For nearly four decades, Joyalukkas has grown alongside Dubai, the City of Gold,” said Joy Alukkas. “These earrings are our tribute to this city and to the artisans whose hands turned an impossible idea into gold.” He dedicated the achievement to the UAE.

John Paul Alukkas said the creation was “not a piece for sale” but “a landmark,” and invited residents and tourists to see it at Dubai Gold District.
