Elon Musk said jobs are likely to undergo significant changes as artificial intelligence and robots transform workplaces, predicting an “evolution of roles” across different fields. When asked about concerns over AI’s impact on the future of work, Elon Musk said he expected the most likely outcome to be beneficial, arguing that people should focus on how work could evolve rather than only on the possibility of job losses.
“Jobs are going to change,” Elon Musk said, adding that he expected an “evolution of roles” as AI and robots become increasingly integrated into different fields.
“I think the most likely outcome, and it’s probably worth looking at the most likely outcome, is one which is incredibly beneficial. If you could look into the future,
it is the future you would want,” Elon Musk said.
The comments came after Elon Musk attended a White House meeting where some of the world’s biggest technology executives gathered to discuss the development of artificial intelligence.
US President Donald Trump spoke about AI competition with China, saying he and Elon Musk had met Chinese President Xi Jinping last week and discussed data centres.
“They want every data center. They want it because that’s great for China,” Donald Trump said. Data centres are a crucial part of the AI ecosystem because they provide the computing infrastructure needed to train and run advanced AI models. The US and China are competing to expand their AI capabilities, with access to computing power and infrastructure becoming an increasingly important part of that competition.
Tech Companies Agree To AI Safeguards
Trump said major technology companies had signed a “morally binding” commitment to strengthen safeguards around artificial intelligence. The agreement, however, is not legally enforceable.
“They’re going to police themselves,” Trump said after the White House meeting.
Zuckerberg said the agreement was intended to reassure users that AI systems “work in the way that we intend”. The commitment includes “robust internal controls” and multiple layers of auditing, including internal risk reviews, external auditors and oversight by company boards, Zuckerberg said. He described the agreement as a starting point for developing industry-wide standards.
