Chandigarh, Jun 20 (PTI) West Bengal Foundation Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and cultural fervour at Haryana Lok Bhavan here on Saturday in the presence of Haryana Governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh, Punjab Governor and UT Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Ghosh extended greetings to the people of West Bengal and described the state as a centre of India’s cultural, intellectual and spiritual heritage.
He said West Bengal played a leading role in India’s renaissance and made significant contributions to social reform, education, literature, art, science and the freedom movement.
He said the state has produced many eminent personalities whose contributions
have influenced India and the world.
The governor also stressed that India’s strength lies in its unity in diversity and said such celebrations strengthen the spirit of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat”.
Speaking on the occasion, Kataria said the celebration of foundation days of different states helps promote national integration and enables people to learn about the country’s diverse cultures, traditions and heritage.
He praised West Bengal’s contribution to India’s social, cultural and intellectual growth.
Chief Minister Saini said West Bengal is the land of great personalities such as Rabindranath Tagore, Swami Vivekananda, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Ramakrishna Paramahansa.
He said the state played a pioneering role in India’s renaissance and freedom movement and continues to inspire the nation through its contributions to literature, art and social reform.
Saini expressed confidence that West Bengal would play an important role in achieving the goals of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat by 2047.
He said the state’s intellectual heritage, youth population and strategic location provide immense opportunities for growth and development.
The programme featured colourful cultural performances showcasing West Bengal’s rich heritage, folk traditions and music.
Artists from Mishti Adda and a troupe led by Pandit Subhash Ghosh presented folk dances and musical performances that received appreciation from the audience.
