New Delhi, May 28 (PTI) The National Capital Region Transport Corporation organised a two-day awareness drive on menstrual hygiene at Sarai Kale Khan and Begumpul Namo Bharat stations to promote menstrual health and safe hygiene practices among women commuters.
The campaign was held on Wednesday and Thursday at the stations and inside the women’s coaches of Namo Bharat trains, according to a statement.
Women volunteers at information desks and kiosks in commuter areas interacted with passengers and distributed literature on menstrual health and well-being, the statement said.
The corporation also distributed menstrual hygiene kits — containing sanitary pads, period trackers and awareness material — to women commuters during the programme. It added
that interactive activity zones and themed photo booths were installed at both stations to encourage public participation and engagement.
According to National Capital Region Transport Corporation(NCRTC), the initiative received encouraging participation from commuters, many of whom appreciated efforts to promote awareness on menstrual hygiene in public spaces such as stations and trains.
The corporation said while menstrual health and hygiene continue to remain important aspects of women’s well-being, social stigma and hesitation often limit open discussions on the subject.
It added that such initiatives at high-footfall transport hubs aim to spark informed conversations and foster a more inclusive environment for commuters.
Earlier this year, NCRTC had launched a gender sensitisation campaign titled “Aakankshaon Ke Pankh” to promote inclusivity, gender sensitivity and safer public transport spaces for women commuters.
The campaign, planned for the next five years, focuses on awareness, empathy and shared responsibility in ensuring commuter safety, it read.
The NCRTC added that it continues to undertake initiatives related to commuter safety, comfort and well-being across the Namo Bharat corridor by developing stations and trains into more responsive public spaces. PTI SHB SMV SHB SMV SKY SKY
