Iran vs New Zealand, FIFA World Cup 2026 Highlights:
Iran showed plenty of character in their FIFA World Cup 2026 opener, coming from behind twice to secure a thrilling 2-2 draw against New Zealand in Group G at Los Angeles Stadium.
The Kiwis struck first after just seven minutes when Chris Wood’s clever hold-up play released Elijah Just, who fired home to give New Zealand an early lead. Iran gradually settled and found their equaliser in the 32nd minute through Ramin Rezaeian, who pounced on a loose ball inside the box.
New Zealand regained the advantage shortly after halftime as Wood once again turned provider, combining brilliantly with Just, who finished clinically for his second goal of the night.
Iran responded once more in the 64th minute.
Rezaeian turned creator with a pinpoint cross from the right, and Mohammad Mohebi powered a header into the net to level proceedings.
Mehdi Taremi later struck the post as both sides pushed for a winner, but neither could find a decisive breakthrough.
