US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor arrived in Imphal on Friday as New Delhi prepares to host the BRICS Summit, bringing a large number of world leaders to the Indian capital.
Gor’s arrival in Manipur comes at a time when India is drawing heightened international attention, with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and other leaders expected in Delhi for the September 12-13 BRICS Summit.
Gor’s Imphal Visit
His arrival comes amid a busy period of diplomatic engagement for the US envoy in India.
Gor has recently been involved in discussions on a range of India-US issues, including trade, defence and strategic cooperation. He has also described India-US ties as being at a historic high point.

also took part in the Quad Sherpas’ meeting in New Delhi earlier this month, where officials discussed maritime security, economic security, critical and emerging technologies and humanitarian assistance.
BRICS Summit Puts India In Diplomatic Spotlight
Gor’s arrival in Imphal coincides with one of the biggest diplomatic events India is hosting this year. The 18th BRICS Summit will take place in New Delhi on September 12 and 13, with leaders and senior representatives from BRICS countries and international organisations arriving in the capital.
The summit is particularly significant as the expanded BRICS grouping brings together countries including India, China, Russia, Iran, Brazil, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
For India, the summit provides an opportunity to engage simultaneously with major powers and emerging economies on issues ranging from trade and technology to global security and the future of international institutions.
India-US Ties Continue Alongside BRICS Engagement
The US is not a member of BRICS, but Washington is closely watching India’s growing engagement with the expanded grouping, particularly as New Delhi maintains relationships with both the US and countries such as Russia, China and Iran.
At the same time, India and the US continue to deepen cooperation across several areas. Gor recently highlighted growing cooperation in sectors including technology, pharmaceuticals, defence and military exercises
