Kathmandu, Oct 6 (PTI) Nepal’s top electoral body on Monday approved the schedule for the House of Representatives election, which is set to take place on March 5.
In a statement, the Election Commission
said that the approved timetable outlines all key procedures, including registration, voting and counting.
According to the schedule, political parties should get registered for the poll from November 16 to 26. If a new political party wants to take part in the elections, it should get registered by November 15.
Political parties will be allowed to carry out their election publicity campaign for a period of 15 days from February 15 to March 2.
Parties will have to submit their closed list for the proportional election on January 2 and 3, 2026, it said.
The voting will take place from 7 AM to 5 PM on March 5, 2026. The counting of votes will take place on the same day after the ballot boxes are collected.
The Commission said it aims to ensure a free, fair, and transparent election through timely preparations and effective coordination among stakeholders.
President Ramchandra Paudel announced the date for the fresh election on September 12 by dissolving the House of Representatives.
Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki has been saying that her government was committed to holding the general elections on time.
Karki, 73, became prime minister on September 12, ending days of political uncertainty after the ouster of Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli following violent protests by a youth-led Gen Z group against his government over corruption and a ban on social media. PTI SBP ZH ZH
