Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann jumped to the defence of Florian Wirtz following the midfielder’s slow start to life at Liverpool following his blockbuster £100m transfer to the Premier League champions from Bayer Leverkusen.
Wirtz is yet to open his PL account with the Reds despite seven appearances for the club following his club-record-breaking move, but Nagelsmann called for patience over the wunderkind’s acclimatization to the club and team.

“Even though he hasn’t scored any goals, he is still the player who creates the most chances in the Premier League,” Nagelsmann said.
told Sport 1 after Germany’s 4-0 home win over Luxembourg in a World Cup qualifier.
“It’s not his fault if his teammates don’t convert them, and the statistics don’t even tell the whole story,” he added.
Wirtz joined Leverkusen from Cologne in 2020 and managed to score 57 goals while also setting up 65 assists in 197 appearances for Leverkusen to quickly stamp his authority in the Bundesliga, but has struggled to take to life in Liverpool as yet.

“I saw him playing with total freedom. He knows what he’s capable of and how things work,” Nagelsmann said.
“He hasn’t always had it easy – he’ll have to work hard now too,” the German gaffer added.
