Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the country’s 80th Independence Day, appealed to all political parties to extend their support towards the implementation of 33% women’s reservation in the Lok Sabha as well as the state assemblies.
Speaking on how the women’s reservation bill was stalled in Parliament, PM Modi said on Saturday that this political dream has become a victim in the “arena of politics”.
“In Parliament, the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam was passed. But due to some reason or another, for the past 40 years, this political dream has always fallen victim to the arena of politics. Today, standing from the ramparts of the Red Fort in the shadow of the tricolor flag, I pray to all the political parties
of the country. I urge you: Come, become worshippers of the capability of these women. Come forward in honour of those women,” PM Modi said.

PM Modi Asks Oppn To ‘Take Credit’ But Push For Women’s Bill
The prime minister further appealed to all the political parties to push for the implementation of women’s reservation in the Parliament.
He said to the Opposition that they may “take the credit themselves”, but they should give women “their due rights”.
“So that our mothers and sisters get 33% representation in the assembly and Lok Sabha, so that they can contribute to the policy-making of India. This is the need of the hour, and once again I urge all political parties: come, by implementing women’s reservation, join in honouring women, take the glory yourselves, take the credit yourselves, but give our mothers and sisters their due rights,” PM Modi said.

‘Benefit Of Lakhpati Didis Being Extended To 6 Crore Women’
He further said that the government was targeting to give the benefit of ‘Lakhpati Didis’ to 3 crore women; however, they have already surpassed the target. He added that now they have revised the target to 6 crore women.
“We had set a target of making 3 crore women ‘Lakhpati Didis’, and we have already surpassed that target. Now, we are moving forward with a target of creating 6 crore Lakhpati Didis. Creating 3 crore new Lakhpati Didis will bring a major transformation to the rural economy,” PM Modi said.
