The trailer of Vaa Vaathiyaar, headlined by Karthi, has been released, giving fans their first look at the actor in a vibrant and flamboyant role. Directed by Nalan Kumaraswamy, the film blends action,
romance and comedy, and the trailer has quickly drawn attention across social media.
The official trailer was shared by production house Studio Green, which announced the release with the post, “Rathathin raththamana udanpirappukkale…very excited to present the trailer of #VaaVaathiyaar. In Cinemas December 12!” The message confirmed the film’s revised theatrical release date.

Karthi’s brother and actor Suriya also extended his support by sharing the trailer online. Posting his reaction, Suriya wrote, “Here’s the trailer of #VaaVaathiyaar Hearty wishes team!” His message added to the buzz surrounding the film’s launch.
The trailer release follows the unveiling of the film’s third single, Mu Dha La Li, along with its lyric video. Together, these releases have strengthened the film’s promotional push after the makers shifted the release date from December 5 to December 12.
Vaa Vaathiyaar features an ensemble cast including Krithi Shetty, Sathyaraj, Anand Raj, Rajkiran, Karunakaran and others in prominent roles. Music for the film has been composed by Santhosh Narayanan, whose songs have already sparked interest among audiences. The project marks his third collaboration with director Nalan Kumaraswamy after Soodhu Kavvum and Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum. The technical team includes cinematographer George C Williams and editor Vetri Krishnan. The film is produced by Studio Green, which previously backed Suriya’s Kanguva.
However, the film has encountered a legal hurdle that could impact its release once again. The Madras High Court has restrained the release of Vaa Vaathiyaar following a case filed by the Official Assignee of the High Court. The petition alleges that the film’s producer, KE Gnanavel Raja of Studio Green, failed to clear pending dues.
The dispute traces back to 2011, when Gnanavel Raja and businessman Sunderdas entered into an agreement to co-produce a film, with each committing an investment of Rs 40 crore. Sunderdas reportedly invested Rs 12.85 crore before withdrawing from the project. In 2014, he was declared insolvent by the High Court, after which the Official Assignee was appointed to evaluate his assets and liabilities for creditor repayment.
With the legal proceedings now in focus, uncertainty surrounds whether Vaa Vaathiyaar will meet its scheduled December 12 release.
