The announcement of ‘Rooh’ has generated interest as Emraan has long been associated with the horror space in Indian cinema, having previously featured in films such as Raaz: The Mystery Continues, Raaz 3, Raaz Reboot, and Ek Thi Daayan. With Rooh, the actor returns to a genre that has played a defining role in his filmography.
The first-look teaser of Rooh opens with the text: “When a legend revisits the darkness,
a nightmare is born.” It then shifts to haunting visuals of a burning forest, followed by a levitating body suspended in mid-air. “You won’t see it coming. You will feel it forever. @vicked.films presents #ROOH Releasing in 2027 In Hindi, Tamil and Telugu,” wrote the makers, while sharing the teaser.
Rooh is directed by Mayank Sharma, known for creating the acclaimed Prime Video series Breathe. The film is co-written by Sharma along with Vishal Kapoor, who has previously worked on horror titles like Lapachhapi and Chhorii. The project is being produced by Vikram Khakhar and Sunny Khanna under Vicked Films.
Described as a musical horror, Rooh aims to blend fear, emotion, and music into a single cinematic experience. The makers have positioned it as a genre-bending film that moves beyond traditional horror storytelling, focusing on atmosphere, emotion, and scale.
Emraan Hashmi On His Upcoming Film Rooh
Speaking about the project, Emraan Hashmi shared that Rooh immediately resonated with him because it combines horror with strong emotional elements and music. “‘Rooh’ is a film that immediately connected with me because it brings together new-age horror, emotion and music in a very powerful way. This is a space that audiences have always associated with me, and the world Mayank is creating feels intense, emotional and cinematic. That is what excited me the most about ‘Rooh,’ and I am really looking forward to audiences experiencing it on the big screen,” Variety India quoted him saying.
The film marks a continued collaboration between new-age storytelling and mainstream theatrical presentation, with a focus on creating a larger-than-life horror experience.
With its ambitious scale, genre fusion, and Emraan Hashmi’s association with horror once again, Rooh is already emerging as one of the more anticipated projects lined up for 2027.
