A 28-year-old woman has approached the police alleging that an unidentified man secretly recorded her while she was bathing in the bathroom of her apartment in Bengaluru’s Green Glen Layout.
According to a report in The Times of India, the incident took place on the evening of May 31 and has triggered a police investigation into an alleged breach of privacy.
In her complaint, the woman stated that she was taking a bath at around 8.15 pm when she noticed a mobile phone positioned near the bathroom window. She alleged that the device was being used to record a video of her without her knowledge or consent.
The complainant told investigators that the phone appeared to be sea-green in colour and featured a dual-camera setup. She also claimed to have
briefly seen the person holding the device, describing him as a man wearing a grey T-shirt.
Realising that she was allegedly being filmed, the woman immediately raised an alarm. However, before anyone could intervene or identify him, the suspect reportedly fled the scene.
The woman subsequently approached the police, following which a case was registered and an investigation launched.
Authorities have registered a case under Section 66E of the Information Technology Act, which deals with violation of privacy, and Section 77 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to voyeurism.
Police officials said the case is being treated seriously given the nature of the allegations and the concerns surrounding privacy and personal safety.
Investigators are now examining CCTV footage from the apartment complex and nearby areas in an effort to identify the suspect and establish his movements before and after the incident. A senior police officer said cameras installed within the residential building as well as in surrounding locations are being reviewed for possible leads.
Officials hope the footage will help trace the individual and determine how he gained access to the area near the complainant’s bathroom.
Police have not yet identified or arrested any suspect in connection with the case.
