Unaccounted goods worth Rs 5 crore seized from Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station

New Delhi, Sep 12 (PTI) The Delhi government’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) department, in coordination with railway officials, seized a consignment of around 50 tonnes of unaccounted goods, including 25 tonnes of copper scrap, at Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, officials said on Saturday.

The total estimated value of the seized goods is around Rs 5 crore. The consignment had arrived at Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station on a train that originated in Renigunta, Andhra Pradesh, they said.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the Delhi government would not tolerate tax evasion and revenue loss at any cost.

“The government’s aim is not just to take action but also to put in place an effective system that ensures businesses operate transparently and every

due tax is collected,” she said.

The chief minister added that GST compliance will be strengthened by increasing surveillance across all modes of goods transportation, including the railways.

According to the officials, the department had received intelligence that goods were being transported through the railway network without mandatory documents such as invoices and e-way bills. Acting on the information, the department carried out the operation in coordination with railway officials.

During the inspection, officials seized around 25 tonnes of copper scrap, estimated to be worth approximately Rs 3 crore. In addition, around 25 tonnes of mixed scrap, clothing and other goods were found, with an estimated value of around Rs 2 crore. PTI SSM APL APL
