An amusing tale of a French woman enjoying wearing India’s traditional Kurti and salwar caught the internet’s attention this week. In her popular post on X, French designer Julia Chaigneau expressed gratitude
to the Indian attire for giving her “ultimate freedom” from itchy fabrics.
The French woman was more than glad to discover the Indian Kurti-Salwar after spending years in uncomfortable shapes and fabrics. The post warmed the hearts of Indians on social media, who appreciated her appearance wearing the traditional Indian dress in a pair of images she attached with it.
French Woman Loves Wearing Indian Kurti-Salwar
“Wearing a kurti with a salwar feels like ultimate freedom for me after years of squeezing into uncomfortable shapes and itchy fabrics. Thank you, India. There’s no going back from this, haha,” wrote Chaigneau, who moved to India a couple of years ago.

Chaigneau’s post contained her wonderful images wearing the Indian Kurti in grey and blue colour shades, which suited her perfectly, according to many on social media. Many admired her adaptation of the Indian style and went on to suggest that the French designer is now officially an Indian.
French Woman Receives Love From Indian Internet Users
“Sometimes I believe that clothing has more to do with geography than culture and religion,” wrote an individual in the comment section of the post, to which Chaigneau wholeheartedly agreed.
“Yes, I also agree with that. For example, weather will definitely impact outfit choices,” she replied.
“Congratulations! You are now an honorary Indian. 50% off on your next samosa & adrak chai,” someone else quipped beneath the post.
Another comment read, “That’s beautiful! Nothing matches the comfort of our traditional wear. Glad you’ve found that freedom. Once you go to kurti-salwar, there’s really no going back.”
“Nothing beats comfort! Once you switch to a kurti and salwar, there’s no going back—freedom feels amazing!” an individual said.
The French woman’s story underpins the message of acceptance and the importance of embracing different cultures and lifestyles wherever we go. The moment she decided to adapt the Kurti-Salwar, the lady found more comfort in the wear than the foreign clothes she would’ve carried with her to India.
