Jaipur, Jun 29 (PTI) Several parts of Rajasthan are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall this week amid conditions favourable for the further advance of the southwest monsoon, the meteorological department said here.
However, several areas of the state on Monday witnessed relentless heat. Sri Ganganagar was recorded as the hottest with the maximum temperature of 45.1 degrees Celsius, followed by 43.6 degrees in Phalodi, 42.8 degrees in Bikaner and Churu. State capital Jaipur recorded 40.4 degrees Celsius.
According to the weather office, the northern limit of the southwest monsoon is currently passing through parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Bihar.
“Conditions are favourable for its further advance into parts of Gujarat,
Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand over the next two to three days,” it said.
In Rajasthan, moderate to heavy rainfall activity is expected to continue in parts of Kota and Udaipur divisions in the coming days, while Jaipur, Bharatpur and Kota divisions may also witness light to moderate rainfall at isolated places.
Rainfall activity is likely to intensify in parts of southeast and eastern Rajasthan from July 2. Between July 3 and 5, more areas in eastern Rajasthan are expected to witness increased rainfall, with moderate to heavy showers expected at some places, the weather department said.
Heatwave-like conditions are likely to persist in parts of Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions during the early part of the week, with maximum temperatures expected to hover between 42 and 44 degrees Celsius.
High humidity levels are expected to cause discomfort, leading to sultry weather conditions in these regions, the weather office said. PTI AG PRK
