Virat Kohli is playing as an opener for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their second match of IPL 2026 against Chennai Super Kings. In the match taking place at M Chinnaswamy in Bengaluru, the 36-year-old right-handed batter from Delhi, who has been associated with RCB since the first season of the IPL, has broken Rohit Sharma’s record of scoring the most runs against one team in the IPL.
Rohit, who is the second most capped player in the IPL, has 1161 runs to his name in 36 IPL matches against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Kohli, on the other hand, now has extended his tally of runs to 1162 in 36 IPL matches against Chennai Super Kings.
Virat Kohli needed 16 runs in the 11th league match of IPL 2026 between RCB and CSK to go past Rohit’s tally, and he achieved
the objective during the third ball of the fourth over of RCB’s innings bowled by Matt Henry.

Before breaking Rohit’s record of scoring most runs against one team in the IPL, Kohli broke his record of scoring most runs against one team in T20s.
Kohli needed two runs against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday to go past Rohit’s tally of runs against Kolkata Knight Riders, and he achieved the objective by taking two runs on the fifth ball of the first over of RCB’s innings.
Apart from playing 36 IPL matches against Chennai Super Kings, he also played one Champions League T20 match for RCB vs CSK, and in that contest, he scored 14 runs.
