BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla wished Shreyas Iyer a speedy recovery after he suffered a laceration injury to his spleen during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney on Saturday. In the 30th over of
the first innings, Alex Carey of Australia mishit his shot, sending the ball into the air.
Shreyas, positioned at the backward point, turned and sprinted towards the ball’s descent. He leapt perfectly and caught the ball, breaking a 59-run partnership with Matthew Renshaw. However, he landed awkwardly, injuring his left side and showing signs of pain. His teammates and medical staff immediately attended to him, and he left the field with assistance.
Shukla expressed hope for Shreyas’ swift return, posting on X, “Wishing Shreyas Iyer a quick recovery. His unwavering spirit and commitment to the game are truly admirable. Looking forward to seeing him back on the field soon, stronger than ever.”
