Nagpur, May 30 (PTI) An elderly couple were found dead inside their house here, with police suspecting that the bedridden wife was alive for some time after her husband’s death but could not seek help.
The deceased were identified as Gangadhar Bhongade (75), a retired Defence Ordnance Factory employee, and his wife Kaushalya Bhongade (70).
The couple had been living alone in MHADA Colony in Davlameti area for nearly 12 years.
The deaths came to light when their son-in-law, unable to contact them for several days, visited the house and noticed foul smell coming from inside. Finding the door locked from inside, he alerted the police.
Gangadhar’s body was found in the kitchen, while Kaushalya’s body was found on a bed in the bedroom.
Deputy Commissioner
of Police Rushikesh Singareddy said that as per the preliminary investigation, Gangadhar appeared to have slipped in the kitchen and suffered a fatal head injury. “The exact cause of death will be known after the post-mortem report is available,” he said.
Kaushalya was paralysed, police said.
“We suspect that after her husband fell in the kitchen, she was left completely helpless and unable to seek help. She may have remained alone in the house for days before her death,” a police official said.
Newspapers of May 27, 28 and 29 were found lying outside the house. Wadi Police have registered an accidental death case and further investigation is underway. PTI COR KRK
