Director Mahesh Narayanan’s film, Patriot, starring Malayalam superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal, has released today, on May 1. The project has generated considerable buzz, as it brings Mohanlal and Mammootty back together in major roles for the first time after many years. Mammootty recently went live on Instagram with Mohanlal and Kunchacko Boban, during which he revealed that the non-Malayalam versions will likely release a week later.

He expressed that the primary goal was to cater to the people of Kerala first. Mammootty reiterated this stance during an Instagram Live session on Thursday with his co-stars Mohanlal and Kunchacko Boban. According to a Cinema Express report, Mammootty also shared that the dubbed versions in other languages would probably arrive in cinemas about a week later, explaining that the delay would be due to the time required to obtain censorship clearance.

Mammootty mentioned that the film carries a significant social message and appeared optimistic about its potential at the box office. He said that he feels reasonably confident about the film’s quality but believes that its fate ultimately lies in the audience’s response. He further observed that the outcome of Patriot could influence whether Malayalam cinema can continue to produce similar projects in the future.

About Patriot

Patriot follows the story of a retired JAG officer, played by Mammootty, who finds himself falsely accused of espionage. As he attempts to prove his innocence, he gets drawn into a covert mission tied to national security. Mohanlal appears as a seasoned armed forces operative who joins him, adding another layer to the narrative. The plot thickens further with Fahadh Faasil’s character, whose concerns about their alliance hint at internal conflict and larger stakes.

The film brings together Mohanlal and Mammootty on screen once again. The two megastars were last seen together in a full-length film in Twenty 20 (2008). While Mohanlal later made a cameo appearance in Mammootty’s Kadal Kadannu Oru Maathukutty (2013), Patriot marks their first full-fledged reunion after more than a decade. The film also features Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, Nayanthara and Revathy in key roles.
