New Delhi, Jul 18 (PTI) Delhi’s relationship with the monsoon has changed significantly, as around 80 to 90 per cent of waterlogging issues have been resolved, PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said on Saturday.
The minister made these remarks during his ‘Government on Wheels’ campaign while inspecting development works across East Delhi.
“There was a time when people prayed that it should not rain because they feared waterlogging. Today, we ask people to pray for more rainfall because nearly 80 to 90 per cent of Delhi’s waterlogging problem has already been addressed,” Singh said.
“The remaining critical locations, where permanent engineering solutions are required, are also being taken up and will be resolved in the coming period,” he added.
The
minister also announced that Laxmi Nagar will soon get a modern skywalk to enhance pedestrian safety and improve traffic movement at one of East Delhi’s busiest intersections.
“Just as Delhi has a skywalk at ITO, we will build an even better and more beautiful skywalk here and dedicate it to the people of East Delhi,” he said.
During the visit, he also inspected the Patparganj Highway stretch and the Jhilmil Underpass, two locations that had long been identified as major waterlogging hotspots during the monsoon.
He said that sustained planning, better inter-departmental coordination and continuous monitoring have brought a visible transformation on the ground. PTI SSM KSI KSI
