Alia Bhatt Says She Married Ranbir Kapoor 'For A Reason': 'It Was Never A Dewy-Eyed Relationship'

Alia Bhatt says her marriage to Ranbir Kapoor was never about a dreamy fairy tale. For her, the reason she chose him was simple – their friendship. But in that friendship lies another truth: her husband also happens to be her biggest troll.

The actor spoke openly about her relationship while appearing on Two Much With Kajol and Twinkle, alongside Varun Dhawan. Sharing why her bond with Ranbir feels different from what people imagine, Alia explained, “Ranbir and I have a natural friendship so it was never this like dewy eye or rose-tinted glasses sort of relationship. There was a relationship of best friends. Of course I married him for a reason because I think he’s wonderful to me and just as a human being. But 100 percent the person I love trolling

is him and the person he loves trolling the most is me.”

Respect above all
Alia made it clear that friendship alone doesn’t define their marriage – respect does. “Because with respect comes all the other things. Whether it’s support or love. Respect to me is the most important thing in a marriage, and in a union,” she said.

A wedding true to them

The couple tied the knot in April 2022 in a quiet ceremony at their Mumbai home, keeping it far from the grandeur expected of Bollywood weddings. Alia explained, “It’s just who we are. We are homebodies, very socially awkward and we were like it’s our wedding day and we just want the closest people in our lives with us.”

Parenthood and work ahead

Alia and Ranbir welcomed their daughter Raha later that year in November 2022. The couple first revealed her face at the Kapoor family’s Christmas lunch in 2023, a moment that quickly went viral.

Looking forward, Ranbir Kapoor is busy with Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, due Diwali 2026, and will also star with wife Alia and Vicky Kaushal in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War.

Alia will be next seen in Alpha, set to release on December 25. Directed by Shiv Rawail, Alpha is set in the YRF Spy Universe and marks the first female-led film in the franchise.
