UPSC Success Story: Every year, millions of candidates in India aspire to become IAS, IPS, and IFS officers. However, only a few achieve this dream. Today, we bring you the story of Tamil Nadu’s Gee Gee A.S.,
who not only cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination twice but also fulfilled her dream by first becoming an IPS officer and later an IFS officer.
Gee Gee A.S., the daughter of an electrician, secured the 25th All India Rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024 on her third attempt. Raised in a modest family, her mother is a homemaker, and her brother is a social worker. Gee Gee A.S. is the first in her family to join the civil service.

She completed her schooling at Jaipal Garodia Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Kolathur, and earned a B.Com degree from Stella Maris College in 2021. Initially, she aspired to become a writer, but a professor encouraged her to consider a career in civil service. The work of the Chennai Corporation, especially the cleanliness and beautification initiatives under former Commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi, further inspired her to believe that effective administrative models could be adopted nationwide, reported News18 Hindi.
Determined to prepare for the UPSC Civil Services Examination, she enrolled in a foundation course and utilised coaching centers and study materials for the prelims, mains, and interview.
On her first attempt, Gee Gee A.S. secured an all-India rank of 107, becoming the topper in Tamil Nadu and was selected for the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 2022. However, her ultimate dream was different, so she decided to improve her rank. Although she failed on her second attempt, she secured AIR 25 on her third attempt, finally achieving her dream of becoming an IFS officer. She had chosen Tamil Literature as her optional subject.
